RAMSEY — This August marks eight years in a row that union members who visit the annual Game Fair in Anoka County will find a booth hosted by the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation and participating unions.
The booth features a drawing — for union members only — to win union-made firearms and other prizes. Participating unions also will offer free give-away items. A popular attraction — the “Big Buck Hunter” video game — provides fun for kids of all ages.
Game Fair runs Friday-Sunday August 10-12 and August 17-19, in an outdoors setting in the woods and by the water at Armstrong Kennel Ranch in Ramsey. Game Fair hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
Game Fair 2012 will be the 31st year for the outdoor hunting and fishing expo, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually. Exhibitors include commercial vendors selling hunting and fishing gear as well as nonprofit conservation organizations offering information about their causes and programs.
You can attend free seminars, learn from experts demonstrating skills, and join in hands-on activities, including archery and riflery.
Kids and adults alike enjoy watching dogs compete to retrieve duck decoys.
“Game Fair is fun for the whole family. The food is really good, too,” said MRLF organizer Adam Robinson, who coordinates the labor booth.
Labor booth seeks volunteers
The labor booth at Game Fair is part of the union member outreach work of the North Suburban Advisory Council of the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation.
To volunteer for a shift to help staff the booth, contact Adam Robinson at 612-321-5672 or send him an e-mail at adam@minneapolisunions.org.
In exchange for a few hours working the booth, volunteers receive a free pass to Game Fair for the day.
