May 14: Letter Carriers' food drive sets goal of collecting 1.3 million pounds in metro area
From the Minneapolis Labor Review, April 29, 2011
MINNEAPOLIS — The nation’s largest one-day food drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, is coming Saturday, May 14.
Simply put a bag of non-perishable food items in a bag near your mailbox and your letter carrier will pick it up.
The food collected will be donated to local foodshelves.
In response to growing need, NALC Branch 9 in Minneapolis says the goal for this year is to collect 1.3 million pounds of food in the Twin Cities metro area.
Food donations also may be dropped off at 13 local Cub Foods stores May 14.
For a list of the 13 Cub locations, visit www.stampouthunger.2harvest.org and click the link for “Get Involved.”
There you also can sign up to volunteer May 14 or make an online cash gift.
