In Minneapolis, House District 61B and Senate District 59 will vote to fill vacancies Tuesday, January 10

MINNEAPOLIS — Tuesday, January 10 is the date for special elections to fill vacancies in two Minneapolis legislative seats, House District 61B and Senate District 59. House District 61B: Susan Allen
In House District 61B in south Minneapolis, Susan Allen is the candidate endorsed by the Minnesota AFL-CIO. She also is endorsed by the DFL Party.
Allen is a graduate of Augsburg College and the University of New Mexico Law School.
Her experience includes working with Native American tribes across the nation to promote jobs and economic development.
Allen, 48, is a 14-year resident of Powderhorn Park neighborhood and has a son 28, and three grandchildren, ages 12, 9, 7.
“I really believe that labor values are my own values,” Allen said. “I look forward to working with the labor organizations… They work for social and economic justice. That’s where it all happens.”
“Our district is so progressive I can be a loud voice” at the legislature, Allen added.

Senate District 59: Kari Dziedzic
Kari Dziedzic is the candidate endorsed by the Minnesota AFL-CIO in Senate District 59 in northeast and southeast Minneapolis. She won the six-candidate DFL primary election to win the DFL endorsement.
Dziedzic, 49, grew up and lives now in northeast Minneapolis. She is a graduate of Edison High School and the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology.
Her experience includes working as a policy aide for Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Stenglein.
She comes from a union family: her father, Walt Dziedzic, was a Minneapolis police officer for 25 years and longtime Minneapolis City Council member and Park Board Commissioner. Two of her brothers are Minneapolis firefighters.
“I truly believe in unions,” Dziedzic said. “They’re the backbone of the middle class.”
“Talking to voters, everybody’s worried about the economy,” she said. Her priorities in the legislature will be job creation, funding for education, and fair taxes.
