Thursday, July 29: the Haymarket Memorial
|
Left: 100-degree temperatures and the split in the AFL-CIO cancelled a planned march from the convention to a new memorial marking the site of tragic 1886 events at Haymarket Square, where workers calling for the eight-hour day clashed with police in one of labor history’s epic moments.
This new memorial, located at the corner of Randolph and Des Plaines Streets, was dedicated September 14, 2004.
